A DHCP client may receive offers from multiple DHCP servers and can accept any one of the offers; however, the client usually accepts the first offer it receives. The offer from the DHCP server is not a guarantee that the IP address will be allocated to the client; however, the server usually reserves the address until the client has had a chance to formally request the address. The configurable dynamic host configuration protocol client functionality allows a DHCP client to use a user-specified client identifier, class identifier, or suggested lease time when requesting an address from a DHCP server.
Configuration parameters and other control information are carried in tagged data items that are stored in the options field of the DHCP message. Option 12—This option specifies the name of the client.
The name may or may not be qualified with the local domain. The ip dhcp client request command allows the system administrator to turn off some of the requested options, thus removing them from the request list. Option 60—This option allows the user to configure the vendor class identifier string to use in the DHCP interaction. DHCP servers use this value to index their database of address bindings.
This value is expected to be unique for all clients in an administrative domain. If a request includes both static routes and classless static routes, the client uses only the classless static routes. Use the ip address dhcp command to obtain IP address information for the configured interface.

What does FiOS expects to see in there? It's a very technical question so if i can't get help here how can i contact an engineer that would be able to answer this? Welcome to the forums. Just so you know, this is a peer-to-peer support forum. Verizon does not answer questions here. Sometimes the Verizon moderators escalate issues to the support team, which is an extension of the Verizon folk you can reach by using the "contact us" link at the bottom of these pages.
If that happens to your issue, be sure to follow the instructions the moderators post. Unfortunately, I do not know of any methods to reach Verizon's network engineers.
They keep them very well separated from customers. Verizon keeps their residential customer contact very focused on the public support channels. It's possible some of the other users here may know details about your question, but I'm not one of them.Tarzan cast 1966
It won't talk to me at all unless i spoof the mac address. But like i said i was able to get an ip from a laptop when i spoof a mac but not through the router. A lot of research narrowed it down to the clien-id field. So that makes hot swap's of routers impossible without the above steps. You have to release the IP Address of the device that connected while it's connected.
Once it's released the MAC address Binding is broken, and that allows you to connect any other device. Cisco's are very popular routers, and used by a lot of my friends on Verizon's network.
Yep cloned the MAC. Tested it on a PC too. DHCP Discover with no client-id worked fine, everything else being equal, if i add clien-id and dhcp server won't reply. Problem was with not releasing the initial lease.
So to solve just release the original lease and send in a new Discover with client-id and you'll get and offer back. Turn on suggestions. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type.Lightburn crack

I was wondering what is a Client Identifier String, and option 61? I know nothing, but a Web search might tell you at least as much as I gleaned.DHCP Explained - Step by Step
It seems to be a string which can be used by a DHCP server to identify a particular set of parameters to be returned to the client. As an arbitrary string, it could convey more information than something like a MAC address. In this case, your ISP who operates the relevant DHCP server would be the one who knows if this identifier needs to be set to some specific value.

DHCP servers can send vendor specific options to clients to granularly control configuration. Since this applications only run on Microsoft Windows its no more than logical to only send this option to Windows clients. The vendor class is used by DHCP clients to optionally identify the vendor and configuration.
Examples of vendor classes are:. The structure is pretty simple: the first byte contains the option code 43 [or 0x2B in hex], the second byte the length of the package followed by one or more options. Each option i n i1, i2, etc has same basic structure: the first byte contains the options codethe second byte the length of the package followed by the value of the option.
That means that each option i n i1, i2, etc. By default only optionand are available for Microsoft Windows Options but these can be extended via the context menu of the protocol stack IPv4 or IPv6 and selecting Set Predefined Options.
The DHCP offer received contains multiple options including subnetMask , domainName , domainNameServer and the vendor specific option just like in the example diagram is shown.
Wireshark does show this information. Though this is not mentioned in the RFC they are required for the DHCP client to identify the end of the option allowing the client to separate the options.
The value is send as hexadecimal byte values. Translating the hex values to string can be done here and from string to hex here. The script can be found here. The options can be set in a subclass where you can filter on the vendor class identifier. Below you can find an example configuration presenting the same vendor specific options as in previous examples.
As the vendor specific information is considered an opaque data type the user must define the option data in the raw format. With a VitalQIP appliance the vendor specific information can be provided in two ways:.
Source : cisco. For example:. NET application that does that for you. The usage is straightforward: just add the options, specify a separator or not and click Generate. You can download the tool here: CreateVendorSpecificString. His work consisted of designing, migrating and troubleshooting Microsoft and Citrix infrastructures. It only takes a minute to sign up. To configure manual bindings, you must enter the client-identifier DHCP pool configuration command with the appropriate hexadecimal values identifying the DHCP client. Mostly because that's what the specs say you should use. While the client-id will almost always include or entirely be a MAC, it's a bad habit as NICs do sometimes get replaced failures, upgrades, etc. Most DHCP clients allow the user to specify an identifier. BOOTP has no choice, as it has no such option s.

I'm looking to replace the Airport with an AmpliFi Mesh router. Can any one confirm the app update is still pendingand if so when is this update likely to arrive? Is there a method of setting up DHCP option 61 outside of the app for example, SSH access to the router to manually set this optionand if so are there any instruction on how to do this?
I'm a Sky customer - you can use option 61 via the router admin page in a browser. Unfortunately i've forgotten the specific setting - if you do a search for DHCP 61 there is another thread discussing this topic and you'll find help there.
Thanks for the response James. I've looked through the forum before posting and cannot find a definitive set of instructions. If any one can provide a guide to setting up DCHP option 61, I'm sure there are many other Sky customer who would welcome this information. Thanks for the link UI-Brett.

Configuration parameters and other control information are carried in tagged data items that are stored in the options field of the DHCP message. The name may or may not be qualified with the local domain.
DHCP servers use this value to index their database of address bindings. This value is expected to be unique for all clients in an administrative domain. This means that the new configuration will only take effect after either the ip address dhcp command or the release dhcp and renew dhcp EXEC commands have been configured.
It is not possible to configure the system to not include a client identifier. By default, all these options are requested. The no form of the command instructs the system to not request certain options. This name need not be the same as the hostname entered in global configuration mode. The hostname is the globally configured hostname of the router. The client-id keyword and interface-name argument were added. The hostname keyword and host-name argument were added. The behavior of the client-id interface-name option changed.
See the "Usage Guidelines" section for details. Note Prior to Release It is especially useful on Ethernet interfaces that dynamically connect to an internet service provider ISP. The ip address dhcp command also works with ATM point-to-point interfaces and will accept any encapsulation type. However, for ATM multipoint interfaces you must specify Inverse Address Resolution Protocol via the protocol ip inarp interface configuration command and use only the aa15snap encapsulation type.
The most typical usage of the ip address dhcp client-id interface-name hostname host-name command is when interface-name is the Ethernet interface where the command is configured and host-name is the hostname provided by the ISP.Mr p ebeano
The client-id interface option overrides the default and forces the use of the hexadecimal MAC address of the named interface. After Release By default, the hostname specified in option 12 will be the globally configured hostname of the router.
However, you can use the ip address dhcp hostname host-name command to place a different name in the DHCP option 12 field than the globally configured hostname of the router.
You might need to experiment with different configurations to determine the one required by your DHCP server. In the examples that follow, the command ip address dhcp is entered for the Ethernet interface 1.
To specify the class identifier, use the ip dhcp client class-id command in interface configuration mode.
To remove the class identifier, use the no form of this command.
